About the role

Our Product team is passionate about creating, developing and releasing simple-to-use, hassle-software for schools. 

We’re looking for an experienced Product Designer to join our Product team and help us ensure that all users of our product have the best possible experience and can easily and happily achieve their tasks. The remit and focus of the role is to create a design system and UX framework to ensure that our Management Information System (MIS) keeps the user experience at the forefront of its design, using UX best practices and maintaining a consistent, simple, and intuitive UI. It’s a broad and exciting role, and you will be the lynchpin in creating a design team, so we’re looking for someone up for a challenge - if you’re an innovative designer and a real team player, this is the role for you.

Core objectives 

The overall objective is for the Product Designer to design simple, contextual, and delightful user flows and interfaces for Arbor’s broad set of users. This will be achieved through coordinated and well-structured user research, analysis of feedback, and iterative prototyping to arrive at the best possible solutions. 

  • You will also need to establish and maintain a design system and UX framework in order to provide a set of components for Engineers that ensure consistency across the product. When iterating on solutions and delivering new experiences.
  • You will be responsible for UI design, using wireframing and prototyping to deliver designs to engineers for implementation, as well as provide designs for vision and guidance in new functionality or design refreshes.
  • You must be an advocate for UX best practices, and have experience rolling out Design Systems, providing support and review to ensure standards are consistently met. The role will also work closely with Product Marketing and our Marketing Designer to ensure consistency of brand and tone across the product and marketing materials. 

Core responsibilities

  • Creating and owning the Arbor Design System, encapsulating a set of UX best practices alongside the Arbor brand. 
  • Working with the Engineering team to implement the Design System, ensuring guidelines followed and component library used.
  • Providing support to Product Managers to map user journeys and ensure consistency and delightful journeys
  • Working with Product Managers to derive the Product Vision, ensuring a focus on improving UX and maintaining a market leading user experience
  • Working with Product Marketing and our Marketing Designer to ensure consistency across our product and marketing collateral
  • Working with Engineers to help implement UX features according to the rules set in the Design System, and coach into a design-first mentality 
  • Creating appropriate documentation where required and to  facilitate knowledge sharing of UX principles and best practices
  • Being an evangelist for UX across all teams, advocating for customer-centric design and delightful experiences

About you

  • Experience rapidly prototyping using HTML/CSS
  • Knowledge of industry standard design tools, such as Sketch, Invision, Photoshop, or Illustrator
  • Strong understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues and solutions
  • Experience in User Research and Usability Testing, including creating Wireframes, Storyboards, User flows & process flows
  • Experience presenting to and collaborating with executive stakeholders
  • Experience building and owning html/css style guide
  • Experience of creating and owning a complete Design System

Bonus Skills, experience;

  • Experience of working on UX for enterprise B2B software
  • Experience with Component Libraries using React
  • Experience with mobile design and UX
  • Experience working with distributed/remote teams
  • Experience with continuous agile delivery
  • Experience in managing or mentoring UI Designers or UX Researchers

You will also be required to travel to customer sites and engineering team locations as well as having the ability to work in the London (White CIty office minimum 2 days per week.
